After several years of studying and experimenting with fiber manipulation, I began weaving “Sculptural Basketry” while living in the woods of the Arkansas Ozarks. My weaving process is a free form, intuitive fiber manipulation inspired by the wild fibers that I gather from the woods. The vines and branches are used in designing the sculptural shapes. The bark and hand dyed reed are used as weavers. I gather grapevines, Virginia creeper vines, winged elm branches, hickory sticks and hickory bark, reed, sea grass, and honeysuckle vines. Which enhances all of my work with a strong, spiritual force of nature. I satisfy my passion for color by dying the reed and seagrass with a combination of vegetable and procion dyes. This creates a soft hue of colors for weaving with the gathered natural fibers. My unique shapes and designs have evolved over the years, inspired by my vision and expression of the natural world. I have been showing my work at art fairs for fourteen years, from the mid-west to the south-west, receiving many awards.
Gallery representation: Sedona and Tubac, Arizona; Eureka Springs and Mountain View, Arkansas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Germantown, Tennessee; Carmel, Indiana.
